About Bay Area, CA

The Bay Area of San Francisco is situated at the entrance of one of the largest harbors in the Pacific, with filled in marshland and atop hills. The Bay Area has had an outsized influence on the history of this nation in addition to California. Initially, a Spanish, and sometime later a Mexican pueblo and mission, in 1846, the community was conquered by an invading army of prospectors following the discovery of gold in 1848, as well as by America. The Bay Area is a cosmopolitan metropolis that has a frontier edge as the result of the Gold Rush. Much of the community was destroyed by the great 1906 fire and earthquake, although these disastrous events did little to slow down the momentum as a thriving Bay Area became a progressive culture of high technology, and a center of military power and wealth throughout the 1900’s.

Prior to the time when the Pacific water had breached the waters that are currently abridged by the Golden Gate Bridge, or approximately 10,000 years ago, the history of the Ohlone people native to the Bay Area had already started. Complex chiefdoms fell and arose in the scarce remnants of which can be found at the infamous shell mounds, which are large piles of artifacts, such as shells, on the shores of the bay area. Up until the time when Sir Francis Drake, who was the decorated Englishman who looted the Spanish galleons as they sailed beyond the entrance of the San Francisco Bay in 1579, the history of San Francisco has remained untouched by Europeans.

Up until the time that the Spanish, who had long had a stronghold in Southern, California, sailed north on what was known as a Sacred Expedition that was led by a man named Gaspar de Portola in 1775, the history of San Francisco remained devoid of Europeans. The Spanish established the Presidio Army Base in 1776, and the Catholic Church commenced enslaving and capturing the population of Ohlone in the San Francisco region.

Just before the history of the San Francisco 49ers started America made a very lucky acquisition. An eager Mormon priest named Samuel Brannan established a small cropping of wooden shacks, which came to be known as Yerba Buena in 1846, which officially came to be a portion of this country. In 1849, some gold dust was discovered by a man named James Marshall in a Sierra sawmill.

It wasn’t long before the Bay Area of San Francisco was being overrun by prospectors after Mr. Brannan publicized the new gold discovery. More than 50,000 people arrived in San Francisco in under a year, trying to strike it rich. Soon, San Francisco became exuberant and lawless as the result of an outlandish circus of building and discovery. Investments and goods poured in from the East and the history of the San Francisco 49ers is the start of the modern history of San Francisco.

As soon as the Gold boom went bust, the history of the Bay Area of San Francisco, in true San Francisco form, provided a new fire to fuel the silver dreamers of the world. In 1858, the discovery of the Comstock Lode and the San Francisco Bay Area continued to enjoy the advantages of the wealth of ore in California.

These days, the Victorian homes in San Francisco Victorian are considered treasures. However, initially, they were constructed as San Francisco started to get out from under the chaos following the Gold Rush. The Victorian homes in San Francisco were the late-1800’s version of suburban sprawl. These days, these historical houses in San Francisco are painted various colors and stand as testaments to the unique history of San Francisco.

One change in the history of San Francisco was the cable cars. These vehicles displaced the many poor residents of the Financial District hills and Russian Hill with the extremely wealthy residents of San Franciscans who could now easily conquer the steep hills.
