About Stockton, CA

At the head of a navigable channel, Stockton is located where what defines Stockton and its communities is the strategic location with several waterways. Nowadays, the city is known as the primary shipping point for several manufactured and agricultural products of Northern California.

Charles M. Weber, a German immigrant, who had acquired a Mexican land grant for over 48,000 acres was the founder of Stockton in the year 1849. He tried being a gold miner, however, he believed that there would be more opportunity if he would allow gold seekers from all over the world to work for him. Several names had been applied to Stockton, just like Mudville, Gas City and Tuleburg. Prior to Commodore Robert F. Stockton, the city was officially named. Robert F. Stockton who was a marine officer whose responsibility was to drive the Mexican people out of the California in the mid-1840’s. It was the first City in California that wasn’t from Native American or Spanish. On July 23, 1850, the City of Stockton was officially incorporated. Stockton became the fourth largest city in California in the year 1954. At the present time, the county seat of San Joaquin County is Stockton with a population of approximately 286,000 people.

The discovery of gold was made on the Stockton Channel by a river boat that provided the mining locations of the foothills. It used to be the gateway and the transportation and supply center for the southern mines of California. In the year 1855, the gold rush ended. Stockton businesses bloomed from their ability to transport and process agricultural supplies to the markets all over the world.

A temperate climate and rich peat soil combination made the location around Stockton one of the richest dairy regions and agricultural regions in California. All over Stockton’s ancient history, mostly fruit, field crop and nut products had been grown and some a much higher success rate that the others, including major crops of cherries, asparagus, walnut, almonds and tomatoes plus several row sand feed crops and other smaller producing orchards. Vineyards north of Stockton produced prizewinning wines. They contribute to the international reputation of great high quality of California wines.

In the middle 1980’s, Stockton had become a primary commercial center. Iron foundries, shipyards, flour mills, wagon and carriage factories surrounded its tributaries and the channel. The agricultural manufacturing tools were used as the primary industry in Stockton. Few inventions upgraded the farming techniques, and that includes the farm machinery and the Stockton Gang Plow formed by the Holt Manufacturing Company.

Lots of different companies were developed in Stockton building it as one of the most industrialized cities by the end of the nineteenth century in California. During the mid-1900’s, the shipbuilding industry was developed and continued until World War II.

In the year 1933, the Port of Stockton was established. It is the initial inland seaport that was based in California. Ships all over the world arrived at the inland port based in the heart of the city’s agricultural location. Created by the confluence of several rivers it is known as the legendary Delta. Several man-made channels known as 1,000 miles of waterways define the surrounding communities and Stockton.

Stockton established an amazing and breathtaking commercial buildings and civic directory. The University of the Pacific from the year 1924 is located in that area after moving from San Jose. Pacific’s longtime highlight has been in music education before, however, nowadays, they are also supporting fine pharmacy, fine engineering and business schools like the highly-regarded law and dental schools. The private school’s ivy-league ambiance, have made the location many movie settings in many feature film, by its wide shady lawns and with its own lovely old brick buildings are also enjoyed. An off-site campus as the San Joaquin Delta College offered excellent public education.
