About Victorville, CA

Victorville is a community in Victor Valley based in the southwestern part of San Bernardino County. Its population as of July 1, 2013 was approximately 121,096 people. Victorville was incorporated as a general law city on September 21, 1962, with an area measuring 9.7 square miles and a population of around 8,110 people. Population of the city on February 28, 2007 was approximately to be 99,395 people and the land area was approximately 74.16 square miles. This information indicates that the city has grown considerably in its historic past as a town. Aaron G. Lane in the year 1858, founded an appealing station named Lane’s Crossing. Today it is known as Victorville. Turner Road was known to be as Lane’s Crossing located on Mojave River, some two miles north of the Freeway 15 where it crosses the river. Mr. Lane was a veteran captain of the Mexican-American War, who was used to having trouble during that war because of malaria. He learned that he could have a better life by being the miner’s supplier rather than continuing being a prospector in the California gold rush when he settled west.

He settled in the northern California’ near Sutter’s Mill through the year, but in the year 1857, he decided to move to San Bernardino. In the year 1858, he stayed on the Mojave River where he built his way station. He called it Lane’s crossing, but it was changed to Pioneer Station when He sold the property to Texan John Fry Miller. Mr. Miller involved himself in Mojave Valley politics, and he is one of the interesting ranchers in the region who set up the earliest polling place at his own house. Rather than traveling for so long to San Bernardino, ten citizens in the first year gave their votes for Lane’s residence.

The town was known as Victor in about year 1885. The name was decided prior to a construction superintendent named Jacob Nash Victor, who worked for the Santa Fe Railroad, also known as the California Southern Railroad. Almost a mile of the Mojave River’s north-west of the narrows, the community was built as the initial railroad station. The platform of the Town of Victor was arranged on January 18, 1886, that organized the original town’s grid pattern. This first subdivision includes the property within Eleventh Street through First Street and G-street through A-street. The area measured around 1/3 of a square mile or around 200 acres.
