About Porterville, CA

Porterville, California is part of the Visalia/Porterville Metropolitan area. It is located in the county of Tulare of the beautiful San Joaquin Valley. According to the census that was taken 2014, the population of Porterville was 55,546 people. The reason for this explosive growth is because Porterville has annexed some unincorporated areas that were close by.

The Beautiful San Joaquin Valley was believed to be a remote area that simply wasn’t worth anything, during California’s Spanish period. As early as 1826 immigrants went around the eastern foothill close to Porterville. There was swamps all to floor of the Valley floor that are lush with tall rushes.

In the 1834 discovery of Gold attracted explosive covered migration to California, and the prairie wagons rolled through Porterville from 1849 through 1852. Beginning in 1854, a man named Peter Goodhue was operating operated a stopping place on the Los Angeles/ Stockton Road on the bank of the Tule River. Wagon trains that were full of gold seekers went by way of a settlement, although some other travelers found the land fertile rich and struck around and established farms. In 1856 a general store was established in 1856 to sell goods to the Indians as well to the miners. The Indians lived in tribal lands next to the rivers. Between 1858 and 1861 this area became the location of the Tule River.

In 1860, a man named Royal Porter Putnam arrived in the settlement in order hogs, horses, and cattle. The 1902 brought the incorporation to Portersville. In 1907, the Chamber of Commerce was established, while miners relocated to the region in order to extract magnetite ore. and the Chamber of Commerce was formed in1907. In 1926, a form of government known as the City Manager-Council. In 1926, and a Charter was established. The Community has grown from a community of 5,000 residents in 1920. The Central Valley Water Project as well as has been the primary of economic growth in the region. Porterville is the hub of a large farming region hat is particularly noted for its livestock and citrus.

Industry has become the primary factor if the development of the community. As many other smaller businesses also have facilities in Porterville. Many different large public facilities are also located here.
