In the mid-1850’s, Archaeological finds place for the prehistoric Martis society in the eastern border in the Reno metropolitan area. Several pioneers lived in the Truckee Meadows, a very fertile land area which the Truckee River created its road to Pyramid Lake from Lake Tahoe. Additionally to victual farming, the ancient people could pick up business trading from the people who travels along the California Trail, which followed the Truckee westward, prior to developing towards Donner Lake, in which the ancient obstacle of the Sierra Nevada started.

In the vicinity of Virginia City, the gold was discovered in the year 1850, and the lowly mining society established, however, in the year 1859, the Comstock Lode conveyed to a mining rush when the silver was discovered. To provide the mandatory connection of the California Trail to the Virginia City, Charles W. Fuller established a log to toll bridge in the year 1859 over the Truckee River. A poor community who offers services to the traveler soon increased near the bridge. Two years later, Myron C. Lake bought the bridge from Fuller who continued the development of the community with the additional of kiln, grist mill and livery stable to the eating house and hotel. He changed the named into Lake Crossing. Washoe County was consolidated in the year 1864 with Lake’s Crossing and Roop Country that turned to be the largest town in the country. Lake himself earned the title of “Reno’s Founder”.

The Central Pacific Railroad (CPRR) started advance tracks east by January 1863 from Sacramento, California. That connects the Union Pacific Railroad to form the First Transcontinental Railroad at Promontory Utah. In for CPRR promise to establish a depot at Lake’s Crossing, Lake deeded land to the CPRR. When the railroad was established, on May 9, 1868, the Reno City was officially announced. It was CPRR system superintendent Charles Crocker, who gave name to the society prior to the late Major General Jesse Lee Reno. Reno was a Union officer who lost his life at the Battle of South Mountain in the American Civil War.

In the year 1871, the city of Reno was known as the county seat of the lately broaden Washoe County, discarding the current county seat, based in Washoe City. For all that, Nevada’s political power stayed involved the mining communities, initially the Virginia City and later Goldfield and Tonopah. The “Reno Arch” was elevated in the year 1927 on Virginia Street to endorse the coming up soon 1927’s Transcontinental Highways Exposition.

In 1872, the elongation of the Truckee and Virginia Railroad to Reno implemented a boost to the economy of the new city. Reno continued to develop and prosper, in the following decades as an agricultural and business enter and started to become the primary settlement on the transcontinental railroad between Salt Lake and Sacramento.
