About Union City, CA

All-America City was awarded to Union City, based in Alameda County, some 20 miles north of San Jose and 30 miles from San Francisco. The city was incorporated January 13, 1959 along with the cities of New Haven, Decoto and Alvarado. Residing the city there are approximately 74,000 people at present, and citizens from the area are very versatile. One of California Historical Landmark is Alvarado. In the year 2009, the Union City celebrated their 50th Anniversary. Newark, Union City and the city of Fremont are the three cities making up to the south. Along with the curriculum for the youth, Tri-City Area also hosted several local events as well.

The Union City has a total area of 19 square miles, according to the United States Census Bureau, all land with no frontal bay. The Niles Cone aquifer, is handled by the Alameda County Water District, and they provide plenty of water that Union City is consuming. According to 2010 United States Census report, Union City had about a population of 69,516 people with the density of 3,570.6 people for every 1,378.6 per square mile.

Entrepreneurs William and John Horner established an agreement in an oasis look alike, which was part of Bay area in the year 1850. The agreement was called Union City, prior to the Horner’s steamboat called The Union. Gold miners were very disappointed when they found out that the area is better for farming than mining for gold because of the fertile soil. During that time, the agreement was filled out. After few decades, lots of progressive industries were established and grew the surrounding land area, that includes the beet sugar factories, flour-mills and salt manufacturers.

William and John Horner, founders of Union City in the year 1850 merged with the other municipality of New Haven in the year 1854, to form a single town on western side of town of Alvarado, which was named Juan Bautista Alvarado, a former first Mexican governor, which was lost to San Leandro afterwards. The town of Decoto was founded in further east, in the year 1870. These became the railroad hub with the special railroad working through it.

The latter Fremont was established in the year 1950, by Decota and Alvarado that were incorporated targets of the nearest cities of Hayward and Newark. In year 1959, they incorporated themselves to a single city, and named the city prior to Horner’s first agreement called Union City. Between the years of 2014 and 1959, the city’s population grew from 73,000 people from 6,000 people. In the year 2010, the planning commission predicted that the citizens from the area would become some 75,200 people by the year 2020.

Union City was served by several transit systems, including the Dumbarton Express, AC Transit and the cities very own Union City Transit, which was established in the year 1974, which runs 8 bus lines in parts of Hayward and all over the Union City. The BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) rail system hit to the city, when it started to operate in the year 1972. The Union City Bart station was established in the year 2007, at the same year, they remodeled the station and changed into Union City Intermodal Transit Station.

One of the largest centers in the city is the Union Landing Shopping Center with approximately 100 acres, and has around 70 stores. The center mall was completely established in the year 1999, after few years of having debate on the land area. The area used to be a drive in Movie Park. A year after, a Target shopping center close by was established, including a 24 hours Fitness and City Sports.
